Lent can be that annual ‘spark’ that reminds us of who we are in Christ, and all the love and hope we have to offer a hurting world. Westport Eco Congregation encourages our community to tread lighter on our planet and to change one thing – it could be – leaving the car at home, reducing fossil fuel consumption, eliminating single use plastic in our lives. It could also be protecting our fragile environment, by protecting wildlife and plants. Be part of the solution. 02 February 2025 An important bit of history was made today in our parish. It was a great delight to be able to welcome Rev Suzanne Cousins and our Holy Trinity, Westport Aughaval Parishes - Westport & Dugort, Castlebar, Turlough neighbours across the bridge to celebrate their Sunday Holy Communion Service here at St. Mary's Church, Westport. It is about 20 years ago when Holy Trinity Church opened their doors to our congregation when we needed a place to celebrate Mass during the renovation work on the floor and foundation of St Mary's. The theme of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 is based on a text from the Gospel of John: "Do you believe this?" (John 11:26). The prayers and reflections have been prepared by the brothers and sisters of the monastic community of Bose in Northern Italy. The year 2025 marks the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. This commemoration provides a unique opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of Christians as expressed in the Creed formulated at that Council. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025 is an invitation to draw on this common heritage and to enter more deeply into the faith that unites all Christians. HEAVENLY FATHER: In this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we come together as one body, seeking your guidance and grace. May our hearts be open to love and understanding, transcending our differences. Inspire us to work together in faith, sharing the light of Christ with the world.
