ROSARY AT LECANVEY CHURCH: At 5pm weekly on Sundays at Lecanvey Church to pray together for healing for the sick of the parish. HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN YOUR SCHOOL: The current Department of Education survey on the future of patronage in the primary schools will determine what schools will divest. It is important that those who wish for a change in patronage would have their voices heard. It is equally important that those who are already satisfied with the current patronage model and who wish for a Catholic Education for their children, including sacramental preparation within school, would have their voices heard also. For these reasons, and to ensure that an accurate picture emerges, you are invited to participate in this survey if you are a parent, guardian or a prospective parent of a primary school student. Decisions on what schools will retain or lose their Catholic patronage will be influenced by the expressed opinions of those who participate in this survey. Therefore, your opinion and the values you hold dear are important, and your voice needs to be heard about your local school. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. WESTPORT ECO-CONGREGATION: “Everything you have ever bought still exists on the Earth today. The planet cannot sustain this rate of over consumption. “This quote stopped me in my tracks this week. Add this to the images we constantly see of waste mountains that are leeching all sorts of toxins into the earth, and the waterways. Here we are approaching that time of year when we are once again faced with the challenge of Christmas gifts… bombarded by ads telling us what we need to buy for one another when most of us have a super abundance of “stuff”! If we look to Nature as the ultimate gift giver e.g. trees and bushes who get all they need to grow from the soil, sun and rain, and then give of their abundance with pollen to feed the bees in Summer, and berries/fruits for birds and humans in Autumn before dropping their leaves for the creatures who then convert these to soil for next year’s growth, we see the perfect circular economy in action. Could we learn from this? Could we share our abundance with our family, friends and neighbours… either by re-gifting things that we have, sharing our gifts as cooks/bakers, or giving our time as an investment in relationships within our communities? To be continued… The Children’s Advent & Christmas Calendar Counts down the days and weeks to the Birth of Christ and the Season of Christmas. It offers simple suggestions to think about, talk about, pray about and do. Please keep it somewhere prominent and refer to it often in your home. (e.g. On the door of the fridge) The Advent Candles on the Advent Wreath .1st Candle-Hope (called the Prophecy Candle) We remember God's promises and look forward with faith, just as the prophets longed for the Messiah 2nd Candle-Peace (called the Bethlehem Candle) We reflect on the peace Christ brings- peace in our hearts, our homes, and theworld. 3rd Candle-Joy (called the Shepherd’s Candle) The rose candle invites us to rejoice as Christmas draws near celebrating the joy of the Gospel 4th Candle--Love ( called the Angel’s Candle) We honour God's perfect love revealed in Jesus and are called to share that love with each other.5th Candle- The Christ Candle for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the Twelve days of Christmas Together, these candles guide us in welcoming Christ with a hopeful, peaceful, joyful and loving heart. The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition that illustrates a kind of family tree of Jesus Christ. It leads back to Jesse (the father of King David) and other bible stories right to the time God created the world. It's symbols, made by the senior National School Pupils, represent the prophets, ancestors and events from the Old Testament that foretold or led up to the birth of Jesus.

ECO CONGREGATION: As Advent and Christmas approaches, we are invited to consider our Planet Earth and help reduce the environmental impact of the purchasing choices we will make during these weeks. According to a report by MyWaste.ie the annual Christmas splurge sees us produce 25% - 30% more waste than we normally do, which in turn costs all financially, and harms the environment Eco Congregation Westport, invites us to pause and consider our purchasing choices – be conscious of the planet in our Christmas preparation. With just a little effort and imagination we can save financially, and reduce our impact on our precious earth – for example, choosing to buy goods that are manufactured from recycled sources; buying locally produced products wherever possible. Such choices support small businesses and reduce transportation costs – all having a positive environmental . Focus on buying less and buying better. Together can make a difference! PRAYER FOR THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING: O Christ the King, you reign above all things with mercy and truth.Rule our hearts with your love, guide our thoughts with your wisdom and lead us to live as citizens of your eternal kingdom.Grant us courage to witness your Gospel in word and deed, humility to serve others as you served us and joy in the hope of your merciful judgment.May your gentle reign bring peace to our world, justice to the oppressed and freedom to the captives.Stay with us, now and always. AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED: WEEK OF WITNESS NOVEMBER 16 TH - 23rd World Day of the Poor reminds us that service to those most in need is at the heart of the mission of the Church. Today, the papal charity Aid to the Church in Need also begins a ‘Week of Witness’ highlighting the plight of those persecuted for their faith. It’s a sobering reality that today one in seven Christians suffer persecution because of their faith in Jesus. On Nov 19th ‘Red Wednesday’ wear something e.g. a ribbon, a scarf, a tie’ a jumper’ a coat or jacket to show solidarity with the suffering Church and to remember the blood lost by Christians in defence of their faith. REMEMBERING THE POOR. ST VINCENT DE PAUL: Annual Appeal : Drawing near to the poor in our midst will touch our lives. It will remind us of what really counts: to love God and our neighbour. Only this lasts forever, everything else passes away. What we invest in love remains, the rest vanishes. Today we might ask ourselves: ‘What counts for me in life? Where am I making my investments?’ In fleeting riches, with which the world is never satisfied, or in the wealth bestowed by God, who gives eternal life? This is the choice before us: to live in order to gain things on earth, or to give things away in order to gain heaven. Where heaven is concerned, what matters is not what we have, but what we give. Pope Francis. “Remember we do what we can because you give what you can” ROSCOMMON SOLSTICE CHOIR CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: With guest performance by Westport Children’s Choir. ACCORD CATHOLIC MARRIAGE CARE SERVICE: Phone 01-5053112/ marriagepreparation@accord CARE OF CREATION – WESTPORT ECO CONGREGATION: The high-level Conference of Parties (COP30) is in progress in Belem, Brazil right now (10 th – 21 November) It continues 30 years of global climate talks, focusing on forest protection, indigenous leadership, climate education, and stronger emission cuts. The Laudato Si’ Movement and Trócaire are represented there, to highlight the urgency of the climate crisis and amplify the voices of faith communities living out Laudato Si’ in many ways across the world – including here in our own parish. Recently, Pope Leo XIV reminded us that ‘there can be no room for indifference or resignation’ when it comes to the climate crisis, each of us are called to act. Our daily choices, made with awareness and mindfulness, can make a huge difference within our families, communities and our world, in highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis. - Pilgrim's Notes | Westport Parish
Pilgrim's Notes • add + David, Hope, and Mary 23 November 2025 2:30 p.m. We are visiting Ireland for the first time from Pennsylvania, USA. Our visit to Westport was lovely. Climbed Croagh Patrick not quite knowing what we were getting into. What an adventure! Felt like a great accomplishment. How about St. Patrick 40 days on the mountain... water? Shelter? Must have been a powerful, prayerful experience. Definitely felt like a Holy experience connecting to God, St. Patrick, and all the pilgrims who went before us. We were blessed to participate in this special tradition. I'm still unsure of exactly what I believe, but experiencing Croagh Patrick inspired me and filled me with peace. I can feel the spirit of everyone who's made the climb before me, as if we're all here at once, and all connected. I came to Ireland in hopes of finding true solitude and quiet, and Croagh Patrick has more than filled that need. I feel a sense of rest here, as if something outside of me, bigger than me, is keeping me safe. I'm filled with gratitude for the people who fought to preserve this mountain, and that I was able to see this beautiful view. My wife has had a little surgery in the last month but, despite my worries, powered up to the summit. She did wonderfully well. What a wonderfully well maintained walking route to the summit. The views from the peak are a reminder of life’s vastness and the opportunities that lie beyond the horizon, waiting for us to take that leap of chance. Good health became more than a wish; it felt like a responsibility—to care for ourselves, for one another, and for the Earth that holds us all. And as the wind carried prayers whispered by generations before, it felt like a collective yearning for peace on Earth, a dream we still hold dear, no matter how distant it may sometimes seem. May the year ahead be as grounding and uplifting as the Reek itself. Read More Fr John Kenny 1 January 2025 0:30 p.m. On Wednesday January 1st 2025. It is said to be the mountain which St. Patrick himself climbed up, and pilgrims have been hiking up its hillside ever since. Those who are feeling especially penitential will climb the mountain barefoot, and apparently we had a contrite batch of students, as at least a third of the group climbed up the hill sans footwear. In all seriousness, it was beautiful to watch them experience the physical and spiritual journey of the mountain. We made frequent stops for short reflections and prayers, and each time we paused, we were reminded of how blessed we are to live on this beautiful Earth.
