- Eco-Congregation and School Project | Westport Parish
Eco-Congregation and School Sustainability Project An online directory and interactive map of recycling facilities and charity shops. Westport Eco Congregation asks the community of Westport to reflect on the beauty of our precious world and to consider what practical steps can be taken to prevent further damage to the environment. Also, we ask the community to consider those in the developing world already affected by climate change and their future generations. As part of our work we are delighted to launch this dynamic on line project for second level students. We are asking students to investigate all facilities in Westport that encourage and assist recycling and sustainability, to photograph and review the facilities and submit their entries to the parish office. The best entries will be selected and used as part of an online directory of facilities in Westport. This is a ground breaking project – we know of no other such on line directory in Ireland. We are sure that students will be excited and enthusiastic to be part of such a project and we look forward to seeing the students' imaginative entries. Add Data Project Outcomes The outcome of this project will be a comprehensive online catalog of facilities, equipped with advanced search and filtering options. The catalog will be SEO-optimized, ensuring that a simple Google search will direct users to a relevant listing or detailed page for the desired facility. A sample catalog can be viewed at the following link: [Link ] In addition, an automatically generated map of the facilities will be created. A sample of the map can be found here: [Link ] Both the catalog and map will be designed with a mobile-first approach, as over 80% of users accessing the Westport Parish site do so from mobile devices. While the National Pilgrimage Day on Croagh Patrick stretches back many generations, we are conscious of the obligation to support the conservation of the mountain for future generations. The Church has actively engaged with other Stakeholders to undertake the Sustainable Access and Habitat Restoration project currently underway on it which aims to provide a robust path for access and to restore the eroded parts of the mountain. As part of our support for the project, we have committed to minimising the impact of pilgrimage on Croagh Patrick, the drinking water that comes from the mountain streams, the local community and other users of the mountain. In order to do this, we ask each pilgrim to comply with the following: If traveling by car, please park responsibly and follow the instructions of stewards on the day. Stay on the defined path on the mountain (where in place) and do not encroach on the adjoining habitat which may be in the process of restoration. The mountain streams provide drinking water for the local community. Be respectful of this while on the mountain. We endorse the Leave no Trace Principle. Please do not discard any litter on the mountain. It should also be noted that there are no dogs allowed on the mountain. Please respect this requirement. Any local advice offered should be heeded - be aware that the path is on working farmland. Dogs should not be brought on the mountain at any time. Please make sure that you are familiar with the Leave No Trace Principals Details of how to fulfil the spiritual requirements of the pilgrimage are available here Croagh Patrick is a challenging climb and should only be attempted after serious consideration. More information is available here. Please note the following: All pilgrims should heed the instructions of the Mountain Rescue Teams, Order of Malta and An Gárda Síochána at all times. Pilgrims should follow the instructions and guidelines issued by Mayo Mountain Rescue The Pilgrimage Stations are explained at the base of the mountain and are available here Any priest wishing to celebrate the Sacraments on the summit must produce a valid Celebret. - Glory Be (Doxology) - Traditional Wording | Westport Parish
Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp LinkedIn Pinterest Copy link < Back Glory Be (Doxology) - Traditional Wording Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The Gloria Patri , also known in English as the Glory Be to the Father or, colloquially, the Glory Be , is a doxology , a short hymn of praise to God in various Christian liturgies . It is also referred to as the Minor Doxology (Doxologia Minor) or Lesser Doxology , to distinguish it from the Greater Doxology, the Gloria in Excelsis Deo . The earliest Christian doxologies are addressed to the Father "through" (διὰ) the Son , or to the Father and the Holy Spirit with (μετά) the Son, or to the Son with (σύν) the Father and the Holy Spirit. The Trinitarian doxology addressed in parallel fashion to all three Divine Persons of the Trinity, joined by and (καί), as in the form of baptism, Matthew 28:19 , became universal in Nicaean Christianity , which was established as the official faith of the Church with the Edict of Thessalonica in 380. Roman Rite Latin version Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto, Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. This differs from the Greek version because of the insertion of "sicut erat in principio", which is now taken to mean "as it (glory) was in the beginning", but which seems originally to have meant "as he (the Son) was in the beginning", and echo of the opening words of the Gospel according to John : "In the beginning was the Word ". In 529, the Second Synod of Vasio ( Vaison-la-Romaine ) in Gaul said in its fifth canon that the second part of the doxology, with the words "sicut erat in principio", was used in Rome, the East, and Africa, and ordered that it be said likewise in Gaul. Writing in the 1909 Catholic Encyclopedia , Adrian Fortescue , while remarking that what the synod said of the East was false, took the synod's decree to mean that the form originally used in the West was the same as the Greek form. From about the 7th century, the present Roman Rite version became almost universal throughout the West. more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_Patri Previous Next
